State Examination of Midwives

The State Examination of midwifery nurses trained m the St. Helens Hospitals, m the Batchelor Memorial Hospital, Dunedin, and other institutions 1 recognised as training schools, was held on December sth and 6th at four centres :— Wellington, Auckland, Dunedin, and Christchurch. There were thirty -three candidates, and thirty passecl, Nurse Margaret C Smith R.N., St. Helens, Dunedin, heading the list. The following obtained 75 per cent, or over : — Jessie K. Smith, Margaret MoWhinney, Alice Harris, Edith M. Rhodes, Alice M. Sage, St. Helens Hospital, Auckland; Nora Smith, hospital, Kawa Kawa ; Annie J. Wall Townley, St. Helens Hospital, Gisborne ; Lucy M. Howson. Agnes Currie, St . Helens Hospital, Christchurch ; Clara M. Johnson, Doris Finch, Catherine J. Campbell, Ethel M, Gudgeon, St. Helens Hospital, Dunedin ; Ethel W. Bellamy, Winifred Lily Sims. Medical School Maternity Hospital, Dunedin ; Sarah M'Whirter, Lilian M. Alexander. Alexandra Home, Wellington. The following were also successful : Mat ilda Preen, Katherine Sheridan, Hilma M. J.
