Resignations and Appointments

Miss Browne, Matron of the New Plymouth Hospital for twenty years, has resigned that position, and has been appointed matron of Te Waikato Sanatorium, which position she will take up about August Ist. Miss Browne was granted three months' leave by the Hospital Board. Sister Campbell was appointed actingmatron. Sister Evans, who has been in charge of the Children's Hospital at Wellington Hospital (since Mrs. Grace Niell, who gave her services for six months during a shortage of senior sisters), resigned that position, and Sister Preston is iioav in charge. ***** Nurse Comrie was promoted to sister in charge of the Out-patient and X-Ray Department, and later to charge of No. 4 Ward. ***** Sisters Waite and Wallace, fiom New Plymouth Hospital, have been appointed sisters in the Wellington Hospital. Miss Christina Neal, who wastraimd at Masterton Hospital, and lately a sister at the Timaru Hospital, has been appointed matron of the Bottle Lake Fever Hospital, near Christchurch . Nurse Margaret Blackie has been reappointed to District native work, and has gone to commence a new district at Taupo. Miss Ethel Lewis, District Nurse for natives at Otaki, has been granted leave for active service . Miss Lewis was to have left with the 26th Reinforcements, but orders being received that sisters were not t<< go, she is still in New Zealand, and is at present at the Te Waikato Sanatorium. Miss Lewis served in Belgium and Servia in the early days of the war, and is very anxious to return to war work. Nurse Oakden, who was District Nurse for natives at Hamilton, and on leave from that work for six months, during which she went through her midwifery course at St. Helens, Wellington, had a short holiday prior to returning to her district on July Ist. Nurse Ngaro Ngapo has in the meantime been carrying on the work at Hamilton. ***** Nurse Nicholas who recently qualified at St. Helens, Auckland, is remaining on the staff,

Sister L. Luff, of the Westport Hospital staff, severs her connection with that institution in September next. After a short well-earned holiday she will become the bride of Mr. J. Jenkins, of the Westport, Stockton Coal Company. Sister Luff has been for nearly five years on the staff earning for herself the esteem and good wishes of all with whom she has worked, and by whom she will be greatly missed. * • * • * Miss Ada March, trained at Hawera Hospital, has been promoted to a sistership in that hospital. * * • * • Nurse Rogers, late of St. Helens Hospital, Wellington, has started a small Maternity Home at Lyall Bay. *** ■ # # Nurse Lock, St. Helens Hospital Christ - church, has started a Maternity Hospital at New Plymouth.

Kearns, Staff Nurse St. Helens, Wellington, has been promoted to Sub-Matron's position at St. Helens, Invercargill. • • * • • Norse Lucy Clifford, trained at St. Helens, Wellington, writes from Karitani Harris Hospital, where she is now training to be the fourth Phmket Nurse for Wellington, * * * # * Miss Gully and Miss Helmfeldt, who were well-known in connection with the special treatment of infantile paralysis and the deformities resulting from the disease, have, with Miss Wilson of Auckland Hospital, opened a private rest home for children needing treatment. The home is situated in Ponsonby, and is very well suited for the purpose. We wish the promoters every success in the enterprise, which is a very desirable sequel to the visit of Miss Bevilaqua from Adelaide last year.
