New regulations providing for the registration of all midwives have been agreed to by the Governor m Council. In order not to cause unnecessary hardship, arrangements have been made for the registration of midwives already m practice. Women who can show by certificate that they have had not less than 12 months' training m the Women's Hospital, Melbourne, are entitled to registration, as well as any person who within two years after the commencement of the Act produces to the Midwives' Board satisfactory ■evidence that when the Act came into operation she had been for at least two years m bona fide practice as a midwife. Women registered under other public authorities m other parts of the British Empire, provided that the standard of

qualification there is not lower than m Victoria, will be admitted to registration under a reciprocal arrangement. Thos j not included m the above-mentioned classes are required to undergo a prescribed period of training and must be received at hospitals approved of by the Board. A midwife who contracts an infectious disease or has attended an infectious case may have her registration certificate suspended temporarily. The Midwives' Board may also cancel the registration of a woman who disobeys the regulations or is guilty of malpractice. Registration and examination fees are fixed at 5/- and £1 1/- respectively.
