Auckland Branch
Three meetings of the Council have been held during the last quarter. The last was on June Bth, when there was a full attendance, and the business to discuss the alteration of rules, necessitated by the incorporation of the branch. The rules of the Wellington branch were read m detail, and those of the local branch altered — for approval — where it was deemed advisable. Copies to be circulated among the nurses previous to a general meeting to be held on June 24th. A statement, also for circulation, was read setting forth the purchase of a section, and other details concerning the intended new building for the Club.
A general meeting was held on June 24th , when there was a fair att endanc c of members. Apologies were received from Miss^Orr and Miss Bagley for non-attend-ance. Minutes of J the last general meet - ing were read and passed. The various sections of land which had been inspected were then discussed, and the members present were unanimous m approving of the section m Mountain Road as the most suitable for the purpose. It was proposed by Miss Jones, and seconded by Miss McGann, that the purchase be adopted, and this was carried. Alterations to the rules were then discussed, and it was proposed by Miss Foote and seconded by Mrs. Oliphant that the rules remainj_as drafted, and this was also carried. A lengthy discussion took place over the
proposed building, and it was decided that it shall be built m brick. Debentures to the amount of £910 have been promised, and it is hoped the remainder will be forthcoming soon. A hearty vote of [thanks was- passed to Dr. Maguire and those members of the hospital staff and other friends who] so kindly gave their time and talents for the benefit of the Nurses' Club m organising the late concert. A social committee was formed to raise funds by winter entertainments for the same purpose. This concluded the meeting.
A concert to augment the building fund of the proposed Nurses' Residential Club was organised by Dr. Maguire, Medical Superintendent of the General Hospital. It was held on June 23rd m the Nurses Gymnasium Hall, very kindly lent for the occasion by Miss Orr, and was largely attended by members of the medical and nursing professions and their friends. The programme was an admirable one, and was delightfully carried out by members of the staff and other friends. During the interval Mr. Alfred Kidd addressed the audience as to the object for which the concert was held. The fund will benefit to the amount of £12 Bs., and sincere thanks are due to Dr. Maguire and all the other performers for a very pleasant and successful concert.
