Venereal Diseases
The North Canterbury Hospital Board has decided to open a branch of the outpatients' department for the treatment of venereal diseases, and a circular letter has been sent to all chemists and herbalists m, the city and suburbs requesting them to advise such persons as come under their notice of the provision made for treatment. At the recent Australasian Medical Conference m Auckland, important resolutions were carried m regard to these terrible diseases, which are the cause of so much innocent suffering m the world, especially among women and children. One reso-
lution was that it should be made an offence for anyone not qualified to treat such diseases, and that Hospital Boards should afford facilities for the diagnosis of these diseases. Perhaps the most important resolution was that such diseases should be made notifiable and that both sexes should be treated alike m this respect. This resolution is not a new thing, as two or three years ago, when the:' Contagious Diseases Act " was repealed,, the same course was advocated and decided upon as the only means of fighting this terrible scourge.
