Mr. F. H. Wood is one of the best known and most popular gentlemen in the Wairarapa. He has been in the district, chiefly at Grey town, for over twenty years, during which time he has held office as Mayor of that township four times. ' But it is as a salesman of stock that Mr. Wood is mostly known, his saleyards in Carterton, at Taratalii, Featherston, Martin- ' borough, and Tauheranikau being the principally appreciated markets for farmers eager to buy and sell. 1 He has also an extensive land agency and auctioneering business, with branches in the towns named, and may be considered as the best authority in the Valley upon all matters connected with these professions. A great deal -of his popularity, is unquestionably due to his many acts of charity, which, in spite of the secrecy attending them, manage to become publicly known.
