The following paragraph with reference to Mrs Knorr from the Sydney Bulletin pithily satirizes the habit of ante-execution confessions and conversions. We thoroughly agree with the sentiments expressed by our contemporary:—“ A letter written by the condemned woman, Frances Knorr, has. been published by the Victorian authorities. The object of the letter is to warn others, and I to act as a strong deterrent.’ The letter bears evidence on its face of having been manufactured at the instigation of somebody. A woman of Knorr's education and position would never talk about ( strong deterrents.’ Such phrases belong to the lingo of the Penal Department, and characterise the letter as a fraud. Who worded the letter for her ? When you have a helpless woman stuck up in. a rat-trap you can get her.to do anything. Probably the same source' that brought ■ forth certain confessions brought forth this deliciously fraudulent attempt to pass off this letter as voluntarily usuing from •the -condemned;”
