Waikaremoana Lodge Fund Nearing £1,000
THE Waikaremoana Lodge Fund had reached £906 16s. Bd. at 30 November and with donations received since then it is now nearing the first £l,OOO. Contributions are being sent from all parts of the country, and the amount received from 7 September to 30 November was £236 Is. Bd. A nature exhibition arranged by the Wairoa Section in October raised £55 for the fund and this is the second contribution from the section. Members had formed themselves into groups months beforehand and each group worked on a dififerent project. Three groups undertook- the display of subjects illustrating the medicinal uses of our native Hora, the edible plants, and the poisonous plants. Another group studied the Maori art of obtaining . different colour dyes from our plants and showed in their display how it can be used for flax work and for tattooing. Other items in the exhibition included native woods, native trees, shrubs, native flowers from native plants, paintings of birds, foreshore life and plants, insects, shells, fungi, and rocks and stones. Tn addition there were
exhibits of work done by pupils at the local schools. The donations received from 7 September to 30 November were:
