NEW SECTIONS
Following upon enthusiastic and well attended public meetings, the Society has recently extended its sphere of usefulness and influence in the Manawatu and Nelson districts, Sections having been formed with headquarters at Palmerston North and Nelson. The officers elected were : Manawatu: Mr. R. V. Morgan, Chairman, Miss E. J. Bush, Secretary; Committee: Messrs. E. Dear, Rongotea; L. C. Shailer, Rongotea; R. V. Morgan, Palmerston North; M. Greenwood, Palmerston North; W. Webster, Palmerston North T. Fletcher, Palmerston North; E. O. Pryce, Kakariki; Misses M. Greenwood, Palmerston North; E. J. Bush, Palmerston North.
Nelson: Mr. J. A. Peterson, Chairman; Miss L. Deck, Secretary; Mr. J. A. Peterson, Treasurer; Mrs. P. Moncrieff, VicePresident. Committee: Messrs. O. P.
Frumerin, J. A. Cross, D. H. Leigh, J. Armitage. Misses G. Bisley, H. I. Beatson.
The setting up of such Sections in main centres is a praiseworthy achievement and shows that the Society is both vigorous and active. By their activities, such as meetings and outings, Sections and Branches keep alive the purposes of the Society in their districts, and the contribution they make to our work is a very valuable one.
At both meetings, Mr. R. C. Nelson, President, outlined the aims and objects of the Society, and subsequently, executive officers and committees were appointed.
A brief history of the Nelson Section was given by Mrs. P. Moncrieff, who said it had originally started with certain members of the Nelson Women’s Club but it was soon extended. First formed in 1938, the Nelson Section had gone into recess during the war years.
