Nature Protection Council
ARISING from a motion in favour of co- ** ordination of effort passed at the 1949 Annual General Meeting of the Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand, a conference was called in Wellington on 18th May 1950. Delegates from the following organisations attended:— Auckland Botanical Society Bruce Trustees Dunedin Naturalists’ Field Club Federated Mountain Clubs Forest and Bird Protection Society of N.Z. Forestry League Geographical Society of N.Z. Levin Native Flora Club Native Plant Preservation Society N.Z. Institute of Foresters Ornithological Society of N.Z.
Rangitikei Scenery Preservation and Tree Planting Society Royal Society of N.Z. Waipoua Preservation Society Wellington Botanical Society Whangarei Forest and Bird Protection Society The President of this Society, Mr. A. P. Harper, was in the chair. After full discussion a motion was carried “‘That a council be and is hereby formed consisting of one delegate or nominee from each affiliated organisation to be called the Nature Protection Council”, and a provisional Standing Committee of six persons was appointed. It was further resolved that all organisations which had sent a delegate to the conference be asked whether they were interested and would appoint a delegate to the Council, and whether they confirmed the provisional Standing Committee appointed.
