Are You Leaving School?
For those of you who are leaving school at the end of the year, this will be your last issue of “Forest and Bird” sent to you as a school member. We do hope that you intend to carry on as an adult member of the Society. The need for the preservation of forests and birds is getting greater as time goes on, and a Society like ours whose purpose is to work towards this good end, by education, precept, arid at times definite action, is more than ever necessary.
Our “sinews of war” are largely the subscriptions of our members, but the half-crown you have been paying as a junior member was mostly swallowed up in the issue of the quarterly journal, leaving very little over towards our fighting fund. When you leave school and become an adult member, your subscription gives us that little extra we need. It is not only
your subscription we want but you — the stronger the membership, the stronger the voice of the Society.
Just one little word of protest. The secretary receives from junior members many letters like this: “I am leaving school and shall not be subscribing to your magazine any more.” Now, though we appreciate your warning us so that we do not send you two or three issues of “Forest and Bird” before we find out that you have resigned, we must stress that we are not a publishing house issuing a magazine, but a society whose members have the privilege of receiving the issue of a quarterly journal—
So if you are leaving school, please do not leave our Society, but carry on as an adult member and help us in our fight to preserve our bush and birds. You will find all about subscriptions below.
