Miscellaneous.

At 5 p.m. on the 25th ult., Mrs. Kyle, living in a small lean-to near McConnell’s bacon store, at Addington, found a man in her house, which she had left securely fastened up. He escaped by a window at the back, and is suspected to be Larry McDonald, Irish, about 35 years, sft. 9iu., stout build, dark complexion, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, inclined to grey, rather round shouldered, and holds his . head down when walking, dressed in soft black felt hat, turned up at the sides, grey tweed coat, moleskin trousers, very fond of drink, a labourer at Christchurch railway station.

About 4 p.m. on the 30th ult., the station master at Rangiora discovered that an attempt had been made to prize open the window of the booking office, and that some putty had been scraped away from the window near the fastening. No entrance was effected, nor is any person suspected..

About 11 p.m. on the Ist inst. two stacks of wheat, the property of Patrick Grealish, of Milford, Temuka, were burned. The origin of the fire is unknown, and no one is suspected.Between 11 and 11.30 p.m. on the 6th inst. half a chain of fencing around the house of Patrick Cassock, tailor, Stanmore road, was pulled up and thrown into the road. The damage is estimated at £2, and supposed to have been done by larrikins.

At 10.30 p.m. on the 11th inst. a stone was thrown through the bedroom window of Mrs. Thompson, Cranmer square, breaking the pane of glass. , No one in particular, is suspected.
