Lost or stolen at Rangiora, on the 23rd ult., a large black leather pocket-book, about 4in. x 3in., elastic band, two inside pockets, containing three £1 notes, bank or numbers unknown, about ten penny receipt stamps, and some bills; an acceptance on Bank of New Zealand for £2O from Edward Darling to Buschel Bros., due 4th inst., endorsed J. and C. Buschel, the property of John and Carl Buschel, who can identify the pocket-book and acceptance.

Two men, labourers, one short and dark, the other short and red, and John Cameron; Scotch, 45 years, brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, stout build, sft. 6in., black billy cock hat, dark coat and vest, narrow striped corduroy trousers, going to Timaru, are suspected.

Stolen from the dwelling of John Keenan, at Little River, between noon 23rd and 8 a.m. 27th ult., a cheque on Bank of New Zealand, Lyttelton, for £2O, drawn by William Gebbie, supposed in favour of Patrick Callaghan, a cheque for £9 Vs. 6d. on Bank of New South Wales, Christchurch, drawn by William Coope in favour of John Keenan, one £5. and two £1 notes, bank and numbers unknown, the property of John Keenan, whose premises were broken into, and who can identify the cheques.

Stolen from the Star and Garter hotel, Oainaru, between 10 p.m. 30th ult. and 11 am. Ist inst., a light coloured leather sample case, about 8 x 6 x 6in., containing twelve bottles of different kinds of spirits and wine, and with a brass plate underneath the handle, having the name “ Baxter and Co., Dunedin,” engraved thereon, the property of C. J. Webb, commercial traveller, of Dunedin, value £5, and identifiable.

Stolen from the Clarendon hotel, Timaru, between 10.30 and 11 p.m. on the 6th inst., a small cash box containing one £5 note, and £65 in cheques of various values. The following were known to be among them : Cheque drawn by Sibley for £3 18s.; cheque drawn by Watkins for £1; cheque drawn by Jacob Hill for £1 7s. 6d.; cheque drawn by Aston and Peters for £l4 18s.; three small cheques for £3 11s. 6d., £2 10s., £2 7s. 3d., drawers unknown, and an order on Donald McLean for £5. Suspicion attaches to no person at present. The property of Charles Lewis, who can identify the cash box and cheques.

Stolen from Thomas Aldridge’s stables, Oxford terrace, between-the sth and the morning of the Bth inst., a common snaffle bridle nearly new, value 12s. 6d., and two pieces of Chamois leather, value Is. 6d. each, not identifiable. A man, about 35 years, sft. sin., slender build, dark complexion, dark beard, whiskers, and moustache, knockkneed left leg, dressed in light brown trousers and vest, and light cloth sac coat, black felt hat, and comforter round neck, who was loafing about the stables, is suspected.
