Inquests.
An Inquest was held at Christchurch on the 2nd ult., by J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Agnes Emma Roach, an infant, aged 3 months, who met with her death by suffocation, through having swallowed a piece of ribbon. Verdict —Accidental death.
Inquests were held on the 20th April and the 3rd ultimo, at Christchurch, by J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, as to the origin of the fire which took place on the sth April in Colombo street, by which the buildings in the occupation of Messrs. Brownell, Withey, and Hill were destroyed. Verdict —“ There was no evidence to show how the fire originated.”
An Inquest was held at Christchurch on the 24th ult., by J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Mary Tobin, aged 5 years, who died on the 22nd ult., of diptheria. Verdict —Natural causes.
An Inquest was held at Eaiapoi on the 30th ultimo, before Charles Dudley, Esq., Coroner, on the body of David W. Turner, master of the ketch “ Eolly,” who was drowned on the 27th ult., by the capsizing of the vessel when taking the Waimakariri bar. 'Deceased was a native of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Verdict—Accidentally drowned.
An Inquest was held at Kaiapoi on the 28th ultimo, by C. Dudley, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Robert Campbell, a seaman on board the ketch “Eolly,” who met with his death on the 27th ult., under the same circumstances as the foregoing* Verrlipt Accidentally drowned.
