Inquests.
A Police Enquiry was held at Waitahi, West Canterbury, Ist June, 1867, on the body of James Porsyth, a labourer, aged 26 years, a native of Scotland, who died from the effects of a gun-shot wound through the head. Result —Suicide.
An Inquest was held on 11th ult., at HoHo diggings, before S. Beswick, Esq., Coroner, on the Body of Ernest Mastedt, a miner, aged 30 years, who was accidentally killed by the falling in of a drive. Verdict —Accordingly.
An Inquest was held at Christchurch on the 22nd ult. before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of George Ilandcock, farmer, aged 50 years. Verdict —Died from natural causes.
An Inquest held at the Junction Hotel, Lincoln District, on the 29th ult., before J. W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Ellen Curran, aged ten days. Verdict—natural causes.
An Inquest was held at the Rakaia River on the 20th ult, before E. J. Lee, Esq., J.P. on the body of Charles E. Knyvett, stockowner, aged 34, who drowned himself in the Rakaia River, whilst labouring under a fit of temporary insanity. Verdict —Accordingly.
An Inquest was held at Christchurch on the 22nd ult., before J, W. S. Coward, Esq., Coroner, on the body of the infant female child of Edward and J ulia Johnstone, aged six hours. Verdict—Died from natural causes.
