On the night of the 23rd instant a boy, named John Scoles, was way-laid on the South Road, between Christchurch and the Plough Inn, by a man of the following description: an Englishman, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, sharp nose, large dark beard, whiskers, and moustache ; wore black cloth cap, black cloth monkey jacket, black vest, and white moleskin trousers. The offender was armed with a revolver. Since apprehended, but not identified.
