MESSAGE No 5.
In compliance with the Resolution of the House of Representatives, dated the 27th ultimo, requesting to be furnished wiih a Return of all Moneys received as Rents of the Native Reserves in the Province of Nelson from the month of January, 1852 till the present date, and of the Expenditure of such moneys, the Officer administering the Government lays before the House a Return prepared by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Nelson, from the Ist July, 1853, (the date on which the accounts were handed over to him,) to the 4th February, 1854. A Return of the Accounts prior to July, 1853, cannot be furnished without a reference to the books kept by the Trustees, which are at Nelson. His Excelleney further transmits a second Return from the Commissioner on the same subject, being " A Return of the Native Trust Property and Rental for the Province of Nelson.^ R. H.
