THE AMEER.
The British have crossed the Afghanistan frontier. The military autharities have interdicted the Press from telegraphing their movements: } The Viceroy has announced that the chief cause of England's quarrel with the Ameer was questifa of the frontier, and his repeated insults and unfriendly acts towards the Empress, England has no ances against the Afghans. The British forces intend "to disperse any armed-re-sistance, and occupy all strategic positions. ' ' " The Viceroy has promised the chiefs* that /their privileges would be continued, bat any attempt tbimpede the advance of the British would be severer punished. The chiefs are satisfied, and have promised their assistance. A despatch from Lord Cranbrook justifies' ti» policy of the Government, and the Indian Gbi vernmont is in complete accord with the Cabinet.
