THE EAST COAST ELECTION.
In our last we stated (as we were then informed) that Karaitiana Takamoana had been returned for the Eastern Maori Electoral District. We have since learned that no polling took place at the settlements of "Waiapu and Kawakawa, the heavy floods rendering it impossible for the Returning Officers to reach the polling places. The Ngatiporou tribes have sent in a protest against the election, and the Returning Officer has returned the "Writ unindorsed after obtaining legal advice that the proceedings were invalid. There will probably have to be a newelection for the district in question.
