WAVERLEY

WEDDING BELLS CHITTENDEN —HICK FORD ,St. Stephen’s Church, Waverlcy, was the scene of a very pretty "wedding on Saturday afternoon, May 10, when Alice Irene, second daughter of Mrs. Hickford and the late Mr. F. Hickford, Waverlcy, was married to Mcrvyn William Edward Chittenden, fifth sou of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Chittenden, Huiroa, Stratford. The church was beautifully decorated in lemon dahlias and cream chrysanthemums by members of the church. Dainty posies of lemon flowers were arranged on the end of each pew. The officiating minister was Rev. P. A. Stanley, and Mrs. H. S. Barrow presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr. F. Hickford, looked very dainty in a gown of satin bache. The bodice had a heart-shaped neckline finished with a gold brooch of her mother’s and a string of pearls, the gift of the bridegroom, was {worn. The long sleeves, full at the' shoulders, wore tapered to points over the hands and a silver girdle was worn round the waist, and the full skirt formed a long train. Her beautiful embroidered silk tulle veil was caught to the head with a* coronet of orange blossoms and silver leaves, and fell to form a second train. Bite also wore silver shoos and carried a bouquet of white roses, spider lilies and maidenhair fern.

Miss Elsie Hickford, sister of the bride, attended as bridesmaid, and wore an attractive frock of mermaid blue sheer over matching 'taffeta and made on similar lines to the bride’s. The short sleeves were shirred and she wore an amber and crystal necklet (the gift-of the bridegroom). Long while gloves were worn, and a halo of mermaid blue sheer and silver trimmings was worn in the hair and she' carried a bouquet of pink chrysanthemums, carnations, roses aud maidenhair fern.

Mr. Basil Chittenden, brother of the bridegroom, carried out the duties of best man.

As the bride left the church- she was presented with a lucky horseshoe by her little niece, Kathleen Hickford.

,The reception was held in St. Stephen’s Hall, where the tables were decorated with autumn flowers, Mrs. Hickford received her guests wearing a tailored Air Force blue coat with toning hat and accessories and shaded flowers. 'She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, who was attired in a smart navy blue frock and hat and fur stole. A posy of red flowers was carried. Miss I. Hickford, Hastings, sister of the bride, iwore a teal blue costume and hat. A three-tier wedding cake hold pride of place at the bride’s tabic. When the bride and bridegroom left for their honeymoon tour the bride travelled in a petrel blue frock under a navy ’coat and navy hat and accessories.
