GERMAN SENSATION HESS DISAPPEARS Lands in Scotland RUDOLF HESS who was named by Hitler as his successor after Goering, escaped from Germany in an aeroplane, and on arrival over Scotland baled out near Glasgow, breaking 1 his .ankle in his descent. He was taken to a Glasgow Hospital where his identity was established beyond all doubt. ll.ctl 1 Hess was Hitler’s most trusted and valued friend and it is thought that having disagreed with Hitler he anticipated sharing the same fate as Itoehm, who was shot like a dog during the great “purge” because Hitler feared him. On lauding he was taken by a shepherd to his cottage and invited to have a cup of tea, when he replied: “Thank you, I don’t take tea at night. ” He was then taken to the hospital.
