.» v'ii - ANNUAL GALA ' A SUCCESSFUL DAY * The annual Gala of the Patea Seaside Improvement Society was held at the beach on New Year’s Day in the presence of a record number of spectators. Inspector McKee, of the South Taranaki Automobile Association was present and arranged for The parking of the 200 odd cars which completely filled the parking,area. The gate receipts, approximately' £lO, were & record, being nearly £5 in excess of the previous record. The whole of the arrangements were carried through without' a hitch, Mr. 0. S. Martin acting as starter, Mess is L* T, Adams and F. C. "Vcrncv being the judges and Lieutenant A. B. Currie the handicapper. Good business was done at the various side shows, the Patea Municipal Band enlivening the proceedings throughout the afternoon, as...did Mr. Gunnison’s loud-speaker unit.
