Mr. and Mrs. J. Haworth have returned from a holiday in the Nielson district, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott, Auckland, are - the guests of Mr. H. Locker, for the • holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Foster, who have been the guests of Mr, and Mrs. H, J. Pcacocke, Carlyle, left for Wellington on Tuesday. ’ Mr. and Mrs. Miller and their three children, of Auckland, are the guests of Mr. and Mis. H. J. Peacocke, Oarl-ylo. Mrs. L. Irving, Bay of islands, who has been the guest of Mrs. R. Mercer and of Mrs. Fitzsimons, left on Tuesday for Wellington. Mr. Hector .Smith, Chief Electrical Engineer for the Government Housing Department, was a visitor to Patea yes-' • terday. Mr. Smith is a son of Mr, John Smith, formerly of Kakaramea, and now' of Maxwell. Another of the pioneers of Hawera, Mrs. Anne Bai'raclough, died at her home, 42 Argylo Street, Haw-era recently, in her 813th year. Born at Wakefield, Nelson, Mrs. Barraclough was be daughter of the late Wlr. and Mis. John Currin, who were well .known in South Taranaki. Arriving, at Patea in the '7o's she married Mr. L. S. Barraclough, and after living at Patea for a few years went to Hawera. With her husband Mrs. Barraclough devoted her energies to the service of her church with characteristic unobtrusiveness. She was fond'of her garden, being active and in good health until - about 18 months ago. Mrs. Barraclough is survived by her husband and a family' of thrqp sons and three daughters, as well as 20 grandchildren and two groat grandchildren. One son, the , late Mr. Lawford Barraclough, Auckland, deceased her, and there remain Messrs Manson Barraclough (Haw-era), Harry . Barraclough (Pahiatua) and Mesdames C. Nichol (Opuhakc) and Frank* Barraclough (Auckland), G. Mahoney (Auckland), and J. Griffon, Whangarci. 1 ,■ •' , v, : , i
