THE PEACE APPEAL
■ NO RESPONSE HITLER’S HATRED, : ‘ ~ '' Herr Adolf Hitler so hates Britain that even his advisers dare not discuss conciliation, for which reason the Hague peace appeal by King Leopold of Belgium and Queen Wilholmiha > of Holland is still-born, states the Zurich Zeitung’s Berlin correspondent. Amsterdam reports that the absence of a reference to the peace appeal in Herr Hitler ’s Munich. speech has caused resentment and disappointment in Holland. King Haakon of Norway telegraphed Queen Wilhelmina hla wannest agreement in the appfeal. “I entertain a lively hope that it will lead to a fair and durable peace,” he stated.
'Jhe French Press considers that Herr Hitler's speech merely .betrays the anxiety of the Nazi leaders. The Amsterdam correspondent of The'Times says that observers felt the Belgian and Ltutch sovereigns' offer was an attempt to postpone Nazi pressure of neutrals to join Germany. Practical results were now expected.
