ELECTION MUST GO ON
EVEN IN EVENT OF WAR With the present disturbed state of foreign affairs, some doubt exists in the public mind as to the possible effect of an outbreak of war on the political situation in New Zealand, and particularly on the date of the general election. All the -machinery for t|kc general election has now been put in motion, and not oven a 'World war co-uld stop its progress. The situation is that New Zealand has no Parliament. From the date of the dissolution last Tuesday until fha dla-ta -of the return of the writs after the elocion, the functions of government will be carried out by the .Executive Council. These dates having been fired, the election mnsf be held in accordance with tike -arrangrnrem's already made. Even if war were to break out in the meantime, it would be impossible to call Parliament together to consider the position until after the return of the writs.
