PRESBYTERIAN GIRLS’ CLUB
A HAPPY EVENING A very happy evening was spent in the Presbyterian Hall on Monday, when a Halloween night, organised by the members of the Presbyterian Church Girls’ Club was held. On entering the hall the visitors were greet, ed by a number of “witches,” who took them in hand and introduced them to a number of “ghosts,” who, after shaking hands, conducted them to seats. A witch’s cauldron occupied a conspicuous place on the 1 platform. The guests marched past this cauldron during the evening to music, and on the music, ceasing the person opposite the cauldron received a strip of paper with his fortune typed on it. “Dooking” for apples in a tub of water caused much merriment, the dooking being entered into with zest by adults and children.
During the evening a haggis with chappit tatties was piped in by Piper Haddow and distributed among the guests. Among the chappit tatties (wlue,h for the benefit of those who don’t know Scotch, means mashed pn. tatocs) were several lucky charms, including an octagonal Coronation threeponny.picc.e, brought 'from England by Mrs. Richards. The lucky recipient proved to be Mr. Lund junr. After the haggis supper was handed round, and later other games were played, Auld Lang Sync bringing a happy ovenig to a close. The members of the Girls’ Club are to be heartily congratulated on the success of the evening, which brought to those pres, cut from the laud of the heather, many pleasant memories.
