SMASH ON MAIN TRUNK

NINE TRUCKS DERAILED. PASSENGER CARRIAGE ESCAPES. Derailment of nine waggons of a mixed train near To Awamutu on Wednesday completely dislocated traffic on the Main Trunk railway. None of the passengers in the one car attached to the train was injured and the engine crew also escaped. The wrecked waggons were piled in a tangled mass 14 feet deep in a narrow cutting. • The smash occurred near the To MVwliai flag,station, about six miles south of Tc . A wamutu. The train consisted of an engine, 30 waggons loaded with bagged lime, a passenger car, and two vans. The train was travelling north. At the spot where a gang was repairing tho permanent way a truck left the line and derailed eight following trucks which were piled up in confusion in the cutting. A railway telegraph poll was broken and communication h'* telegraph was cut off until temporary repairs were made. '
