GENERAL STRIKE DECIDED. THOUSANDS FLEE FROM CITY. Panic seized the population cf Sin Francisc.oi when a decision for a general strike involving 50,000 workers was reached. Fearing a food shortage, which is already beginning to be felt, thousands of people fled from the city. Forebodings of chaos, bloodshed, and hunger settled like dark clouds in the background of the feverish activity of Oakland labour leaders to induce a further 40,000 men to walk out. Thine is a rising tide of warlike preparations in the already paralysed Golden Gate city.
