REMISSION OF RATE PENALTY

VALIDATING MEASURE PROMISED.

Legislation will be introduced in the next session of Parliament validating the concessions given by local authorities in respect of the statutory ten per cent, penalty on overdue rates for the current year ending on March 31 next, according to a statement made by the Prime Minister, Kt. Hon. G. W. Forbes. Authority to remit or postpone the penalty on unpaid rates was given local authorities in 1931, 1932, and again in 1933, .and any similar concessions that might be granted this year will be validated in due course.
