ANZAC DAY.

CELEBRATIONS IN PATEA. ORDER OF CEREMONY. A meeting of clergy and others with regard to the observance of Anzac Day was held on Thursday, His Worship the Mayor presiding. The Revs. W. H. Walton, A. W. Smaill, and Messrs. F. W. Locker, A. H. Laugslow, A. Maxwell, P. S. Finlayson, L. Honcyfield, and Captain M. J. Carey being also present. The following programme was arranged: ‘ ‘ National Anthem.' ’ Chairman’s opening remarks. Prayer, Captain Carey. Hymn, “0 God Our Help In Ages Past." Lesson, Rev, W. H. Walton. Hymn, "Rock of Ages." Address, Rev. W. H. Wilson. Hymn, "0 Valiant Hearts." Final prayer, Rev. A. W. Smaill. Benediction. Procession to Domain. "Last Post." Doxology. It was decided on the motion of the Rev. W. H. Walton, seconded by Mr. A. H. Laugslow, that no collection be taken up, but that a collection box be placed at the door of the Town Hall for contributions, and that the balance of funds collected be handed over to the local branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association for the relief of distressed soldiers^. Persons wishing to have wreaths placed on the memorial gates are asked to leave them at the Town Hall, where a table will be placed to receive them, after which they will be carried to the gates by the Guides and deposited on the gates by returned soldiers. The offer of the band to attend was accepted with thanks. It was decided that 500 programmes similar to last year’s be obtained. On the motion of Mr. A. H. Langslow, seconded by Mr. Hemingway, it was decided to ask the choirs of the various churches to attend the service in the Town Hall and occupy scats to be allotted near the band. It was unanimously resolved that Miss Marian Hamerton be asked to sing "Land of Hope and Glory" at the service.

Mr. P. S. Finlayson was unanimously elected marshal for the day. It was also decided on the motion of Mr. Hemingway, seconded by the Rev.’ W. H. Walton, to ask the teachers of the various schools in the district to attend the service with their scholars if possible.
