THE MERRY-GO-ROUND.
To the Editor. Sir,—ln reply to “Go Ahead,” you can see by the council meeting that I was under no misapprehension regarding bye-laws. 1 have been in Patea from December 1, and my total takings up to December 1(5 are the sum of 4s (id (four shillings and sixpence). Previous to that I was on relief works for six months, ami this in the manner that your authorities have for promoting business. It is evident that no kind of amusement is welcome in Patea except one. It is true that 1 paid the any kind of a business man would council about £l(s tit the jubilee, but know that this is not it jubilee. The council got their pound of flesh out of me. Now they want my life blood as well. The children of Patea after •Saturday, December 17 will Imre to go to Wanganui for their amusement, in which town I have been made welcome with a small license fee of £1 per year. There the authorities arc progressive enough to know that attractions help the town and help to make the place popular. It would be better for the town of Patea if (here were more like Mr. “Go Ahead.” I thank him for his wonts f>C encouragement, but evidently it did not impress the city fathers.Yours, etc. 0.
