PATEA PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly mooting of the committee of the Patea Plunkct Society was held in the Plunkct rooms at 7.110 p.m. on Friday, Mrs. T. E. Roberts presiding. Mosdames E. W. Hamel, T. Nelson, F. C. Jenkins, D. Roots, 0. Macken, R. Hunger, W. G. P. Ingley, and R. W. Haddow were also present. Apologies for non-attendance wore received from Mrs. C. Carey, Miss Pearce, Mrs. E. W. Harris, and Mrs. W. E. Donald. NURSE’S REPORT. Miss A. Horrell reported as follows: Babies on books -10, older children -17, total 93; now cases for November, mothers (5, babies 0, others 2, total 14; visits to office, S days, adults (51. babies 54, children 17, total .102 j visits to homes, non* 9, old .‘l4, total 43; visits to out-stations, 10 days, 'adults 103, babies 97, children 20, total 220. A lecture was given to the members of the Church of England Girls’ Club on the general care of the baby. Sales Kariol, etc., £ll 8s lid. The report was adopted. The following were thanked for donations of silver paper:-Mr, 3. Paterson, Athalic Roots, standards 1 and 2, Dulcio Mculi, Wilson Smaill, Betty Reid. It was resolved to hold a garden party to help the Stewart Karitano Hospital in Wanganui in the second week in February next. It was decided to send £5 to the. Stewart Karitano ‘ Home as usual for Christmas. PRESIDENT’S REPORT. The president said she was pleased to report that she had visited the subbranches, and felt that considerable progress had boon made, aud another year had ended satisfactorily. On November 30 Mrs. Richardson invited the members of the Patea Executive to an afternoon at her residence, “Castle Hill,” Kakarumca, when the disbanded Kakavamoa sub-branch was reformed into a sub-committee of Patca. Mrs. Richardson was elected president and Mrs. Meharry secretary. Twelve Kakaramea ladies were elected to the committee. They would decide iu what way they could or would help the Patea branch. She had wished them success iu their undertaking. On November 29 she had visited Waitotara, whore Mrs. E. Parsons had kindly consented to act as treasurer, ifhe paid a tribute to the work of Mrs. Clifton us hon. secretary at Waitotara. Mrs. Clifton had done her very best, but it was desirable to have a treasurer with the telephone. Mrs. Clifton would still remain secretary, and Mrs. Parsons would act as treasurer. On December 1 Mrs. Roberts said she had visited the Alton sub-branch, Mrs. A. J. Gibbs kindly entertaining members at her home. There was almost a full attendance of Alton members, and Mrs. Smithcram presided. .Mrs. Roberts gave a resume of the Provincial Conference, and a talk on Plun.;ct Jiiatters and work in general. This was her first visit since 1930. and there was- much to discuss. Miss Horrell was also present’"from Patea, together with Mrs. L. Honeyfield and Mrs. Nelson.

On December 8 she visited the "Waycrlcy sub-branch and addressed a spedal meeting arranged for the purpose, in the form of a social evening. There mere 12 Waverley and 8 Pa tea committee members present. A resume of the conference mas given, and the origin of the Plunkot Society, its expansion, and some of its achievements were covered. At all these meetings, Mrs, .Roberts said, she had stressed the duty of committee members, to be able to answer criticism relating to the policy of the society. Although the society was now well established, committee members could not just carry on, finding the wherewithal for the nurse’s work, but should do more real Plunkct work and follow the aims and objects of the society. In conclusion, she extended Christmas wishes to members anil hoped that they would start the New Year with renewed energies and inspiration to go steadily forward helping in the mission of health for the mothers and babies. The meeting then rose. .
