BAND FUND CONCERT

BY ME. AXD MRS. BONETTI AND PUPILS. A RARE MUSICAL TREAT. Lovers of music know that any concert given by Mr. and Madame Bonetti is bound to provide a rare musical treat, and those who braved the cold and attended at the Town Hall on Monday night were not disappointed. The whole of the items, were exceptionally well chosen, and that they were popular with the audience was shown by the double and triple encores demanded. Mr. Bonctti, who is a marvel with the violin, which is only one of many instruments that he plays, charmed everyone with his rendering of American airs, and as an encore played a selection of Scotch airs, which were enthusiastically received. Another item that was extremely popular was one in which Misses Knowles and Hunger took part, although having only received 20 -les sons. Mr. Bonctti said he was very proud of these pupils, who had made astonishingly rapid progress. At the conclusion of the concert, His Worship the Mayor, in a brief speech, expressed his appreciation of the action of Mr. and Madame Bonctti in coming forward to assist the band. He said they had faithfully fulfilled their promise of 12 months ago. They were at all times willing to assist any deserving object, and travelled throughout Taranaki for this purpose. The local talent this evening amongst Mr. Bonetti’s pupils', His Worship said, had been a very pleasing feature of the evening’s entertainment, and although they were only beginners and had but few lessons, they had acquitted themselves well. He asked the audience to show their appreciation of Mr. and Madame Bonetti’s efforts by giving them three hearty cheers. These were enthusiastically given, the singing of ‘God Save the King’ bringing a most enjoyable concert to a close.

Mr. and Madame Bonctti and party were subsequently entertained at supper by the members of the band.
