W.D.F.U.

There was an excellent attendance of members of the Wavcrlcy branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at the monthly meeting on Friday in St, Andrew’s Hall, when the Dominion president, Mrs. Jackson, was present. Mrs. W. Macfarlane presided over an attendance of some 50 ladies, Mesdames W. Tayler (president), Nicholson, Kettles, Palmer, Hunt* Foreman, sen., T. Foreman, H. Foreman and Miss Larkin being members of the Alton-Kakaramea branch present. Mrs. Jackson gave a brief resume of the work of the Women’s Division throughout the Dominion. She specially mentioned the division’s work in connection with placing unemployed boys on the laud. Two boys were at present being kept at Flock House through the efforts of the division. Mrs. Jackson also mentioned Mrs. C. K. Wilson’s scheme for placing boys on the land and how the division were striving to carry this out.

At the conclusion of her address, Mrs. Jackson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her interesting address, the resolution being carried with acclamation. A musical programme was presented, and very much ' enjoyed by those present. The following ladies contributed items: — Mesdamcs Tenncnt, Graves, and Misses Kennedy, Harvey, and Beer. Mrs. Eamcs and Miss Mathicson accompanied the singers. The members of the committee are much indebted to those ladies who assisted in making the afternoon such a successful one. Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee, wdio had also arranged bowls of narcissi and w T attle on the stage, bringing a touch of spring into the pleasant hall.
