GIRL GIVES LIFE FOR CHILD
KNOCKED DOWN BY LORRY,
Miss M, Baylis, aged ID, of Hukercsiui, near Whangarei, died on April 11 in the Kakalcawa Hospital, .succumbing to injuries she received when struck by the trailer of a heavy timber lorry at Towai on April 2. She was injured when saving the life of a. child. Miss Baylis was walking down the road with two children, when suddenly' one of them darted out in front of an oncoming lorry'. The child was in great danger, and Miss Baylis dashed in front of the lorry and pulled the child out of danger. She herself, however, was knocked down and terribly injured. She was taken to the Kawakawa Hospital suffering from a fracture of the skull and a lacerated foot. Miss Baylis was making good progress until Friday, when complications set in. The people of the district feel the death of Miss Baylis keenly. She was born at Hukorenui and was the eldest daughter of Mr. W. K, Baylis. She was very popular with all. She was also a prominent member of the Huia Hockey Olub. ; :
