BACHELORS AND SPINSTERS

HINT OF TAX. Although no decision has yet been reached on the point, it is regarded as not unlikely that the Government will decide to introduce this year a bachelor and spinster tax as part of its income lax proposals. It is stated on good authority that if it is decided to levy a bachelor and spinster tax it will be by w;iy of income tax. The scheme would provide for a general lowering of the statutory exemption to enable differentiation to be made in favour of all married taxpayers.
