THE PUBLIC DEBT.

To the Editor. Sir —I was very much interested in the letter that appeared in your paper with regard to our big national debt. I have been doing a bit of figuring, and I find that the amount of our debt would suffice to give every man, woman, and child in the Dominion, Maoris included, a loaf of bread and a pint of milk a day for 17 years. Just think of it, nothing to pay the baker and the milkman for 17 years. What could be bought in the way of sugar and tea in addition out of the interest on the 270 millions I leave others to work out. —Yogi's, etc. BREADWINNER.
