Patea succeeded in defeating Hawcra on the latter’s ground on Saturday by 44 runs, thanks mainly to a good innings of 43 by L. Edwards 1 , who was well backed up by Daniell (22) and P. Bourkc, who was unfortunately run out just when he appeared well set. The batsmen were ably supported by Ellis, who! took 4 Hawcra wickets for 22 runs, Jones, who took 3 for 30, and Paterson, _who took 2 wickets in two overs and one ball, with, only one run scored off his bowling.
