A PROGRESSIVE BODY. In addition to its river, with its magnificent •scenery, the '.beach,- and other attractions, Patou, lias a ’beautiful Domain covering altogether <>o acres. Included in this area is a fine sports ground, with a commodious, dressing shed, with dressing brooms, shower ha tills, .Icitjchen, and Living rooms and all conveniences. Close by is a line grandstand and tea kiosk, and adjoining the line ..shelter belt of trees is a children's playground, consisting of swings, see-saws, Iwrizonfal bars, chutxvand shelter sliyd, the playground being a gift from the estate of the lute Air. Hunter Shaw, an oldtime resident, who died recently, leaving the'whole of his estate for charitable purposes. In addition to the gift, of the children’s playground, the Domain Board received the sum of £IOOO from the same, estate, this amount being placed with the Public Trustee „ and thp “interest devoted to maintaining the sports grovmd, buildings, and playground during the year. At the entrance to the Domain arc some very Handsome memorial gates, the pillars containing the mimes of the men from the Patea, Kakaramcu, Whenuakura, Alton, Hurloyville, and Manutahi districts, who fell in ■ the Great War. Thanks to the generosity of the late Mr.-Hunter Shaw, the, people of Patea have now a recreation ground equipped with swings, see-saws, shelter sheds, grandstand and training shed, the whole being kept in first-class ardor all the year round, making the Domain a most attractive place of recreation for young and old. The board at present consists of the following:—Messrs. E. F. Hemingway, (chairman), L. W. Austin (hon. secretary), F. C. Jenkins,. E. Papps, F, Rumsbiottom, T. E. Roberts, and F v WLocker.
