Earl Russeß, ■ Under-Secretary of State for the India OJlice, died saddenlv on March J at Marseilles, aged dd, Earl Russell, who had been recuperating in the South of France alter a recent illness was, it is understood, about to'return, when overcome by an attach which, proved fatal, Earl Russell was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, when the Labour Government was formed in 1929, and later in the same year snce.vded Dr. Drummond Shiels' as Under-Secretary .for tin l India Office. His brother, the Hon. Pert rand Russell, the famous mathematician and author of many philosophical works .succeeds to Die Peerage. Earl Russell was the husband of Ooumtoss Arnim, author of "Elizabeth and Her Gorman Garden" and other novels. He was fid years of age, and .joined the Labour Party in 1916*. He became Under-Secretary of State for India in the present Labour Administration. He was the author of "Lay Sermons’/ and several books, including "MV Life and Adventures."
