EXPECTED VISIT TO SCHOOL CHARLIE FAILS TO APPEAR.
Great excitement prevailed at Char ie Chaplin's old school at Han well when it became known that ho would be inlying the school a visit. The children awaited his arrival at the school with the band playing. A large van arrived loaded with i-uslard pies, which were distributed, then came another van containing other sweets Lastly a private car arrived wiE Chaplin’s emissaries carrying a bn; of brand new ■■shillings from the mini Chnrlie himself did not appear. .11 explained later that he intended f.r visit the school, but it became known Therefore it could not be the private a Hair he desired. The movement to bestow an official honour on Chaplin is widely supported.
