THE EARTHQUAKE
PALMERSTON NORTH RELIEF WORE. ESTIMATED COST OVER £4OOO. 'The Mayor of Palmerston North in a statement said that the total expenditure on earthquake relief in that centre would be about £4OOO or £SUL)u. The generosity of the people had allowed the arrangements to be carried out at a minimum of cost. It was anticipated that the cost of rations, including cooking, would be under sixpence per head dally. Enormous supplies had been received free. The generosity of all the public was simply amazing. A full statement of accounts was being rendered to the Government. Very firm control of the expenditure had been exercised, and the situation reflected the greatest credit on all concerned. THE “PRESS” LIST. The following additional donation has been received to the ‘Press' list for sufferers in the earthquake: — West Coast Refrigerating Co., Ltd., employees, S.R.F.S., 10s; G. T. Marshall, 10s.
