WAGES IN SHOPS REDUCED
1) EDI SlO X IN (’ll RiSTf Hl' IK 'll. EFFORT TO AVOID DISMISSALS. Following the lead of the Government the drapers and boot retailors of’ Fhrislchurch have unanimously decided to reduce tine salaries of all members of their stall’s who are not under the jurisdiction of the Arbitration Court by 10 per cent, as from March 1 and to bring all employees covered bv awards down to the award rates in cases where they are receiving in excess of that amount. By this means it is proposed to make a further immediate reduction in the cost of living and to avoid the nooessily of 'furlheir dismissals and the rationing of work.
