VANISHED WEALTH
SMALL ESTATE OF LATE LORD EJ R.KEXHEAD. EFXD FOR RELATIVES. The “Xi-ws Chronicle” says that the late Lord Eirkonhcad left a net estate of £50(10. excluding a country house near Banbury Cross. The estate would have been much larger, but it owes £20,00(1 for income tax, which is offset by a £OO,OOO life insurance. Lord liirkenhead latterly received a substantial income from directorships, but. lived generously and acted with immense and unenlenlating liberality towards his friends and all persons seeking help. This has resulted in the family being left poorly provided for. In recognition of Inis public ser\b-rs and because of affection for himself and family, many well-known people have provided a fund organised Mr. Winston Churchill, who was idose friend of Lord Birkenhead. Iho contributors include Lord Tnchcape. the Duke of Westminster, Lord Eeaverbruok, and Mr. Reginald Pin-brick, M.P., late of Melbourne, who each gave £SOOO. •The fund exceeds the total similarly subscribed on behalf of Lord Oxford and other impoverished public men. Lord Birkenhead’s heir is at present at Oxford arranging to write a book on his father’s life.
