ANOTHER GEYSER
ACTIVITY AT WALRAKRI. SMALL WALMAXOL'. A large geyser. described as being like a miniature Waimangn, broke on! in tlic Wairakel Valley on February 10, according to advice rccciveil in Auckland. The new centre of thermal activity is Just off the Pink Terraces in the geyser valley. Like practically all the other geysers in the valley, it plays with almost acanny regularity, and every four hours. On February IS it shot large quantities of mud and stone into tin* air to a height of about bin feet. Tim geyser, as yet nn-nanied, is said to provide an awesome rather than a beautiful spectacle, but if it continues M play it should .add another ii ter•.ting sight In this unique locality, Xo’mdy at Wiairakei has tiny knowledge of a geyser having played from this spot before. It is also reported that there has been considerable .activity in the era "• r of Xgaruahoe during the past week. A dense volume of black smoke has been seen rising steadily into the sky. Quite frequently volcanic activity in ■me cimtre of (he thermal region is accompanied by cither increased or diminished aclivity in some other locality. The activity at the hot lake an the summit of Ktiapohu, the Ivetetahi Springs, on the slopes of Tongariro, and the erater of Ngaruahoe frequently varies in this manner.
