MOTOR TRAGEDY
WANGANUI WOMAN KILLED. (JAR ('RASHES NEAR HAWERA. One woman was killed and a man and wom;).n injured ns Hie result of a motor accident on the Waihi Road, opposite the Hawera Racecourse, at about 10 o’clock on Tuesday night. Those a fleeted were: — KILLED. AIRS, E. M. CRAIG, widow, Wanganui, fractured skull. INJURED. MRS. ULTAN AIcCABE. Wanganui, shock, concussion, and bruises. AIR, ERIC FOSTER, single. Wanganui, shock, concussion, and . bruises. Both the injured received medical attention and were removed to a private ho pital, but their condition is not serious. The car, which appears to have skidded sideways some distance across the road, came to rest upside down against a four foot hedge. Airs. Craig, who was thrown over the hedge, dragged herself about 12 yards through thick lucerne and was found unconscious. She was taken to a nearby house and died i few minutes later. Fire immediately broke out in the cur, hut the other two passengers were assisted to safety in a dazed condition. The ear was completely destroyed. Airs. Craig and Airs. McCabe were sisters and Air. Foster, who was driving, is thioir nephew. 'The, women are sisters of Airs. J. R. Foster, wife of the proprietor of Foster’s Hotel, Wanganui, and of Air. F. L. Parsons, proprietor of the Rutland Hotel. Wanganui, It is understood that the party was going to Auckland to see Airs. Craig’s 23 year old son, who is a purser on a Union Company vessel in port there.
