THE ‘‘FBE'E LANCE." The passing of yet another of Now Zealand's prominent statesmen, tsir It. Stout, occurred last week at his home in Wellington. An interesting story oi Ills nota/hle career is one of the mail features of the current issue of the ‘‘New Zealand Free Lance. ’’ Prominence is also given in this issue to the funeral of the Uatc Sir Joseph Ward in the south, including the ceremonies at Invercargill and Bluff. The recent allegations} of trough tplay in New Zealand Itoigby are claiming the attention of the sporting community of the Dominion, and the pros and cons of the matter are being very widely discussed. The ‘‘New Zealand Free Lance." in this issue deals with the subject to its usual thorough manner, and football enthusiasts arc well ad vised to procure a copy. Auckland's decisive victory over the British team is also covered in both picture and story. Among other_ subjects to which prominence is given in the pictorial section of this issue are the Southland ploughing match, the Christchurch Hunt Club's recent steeplechase meeting at Dunsanddl, the Otago University students ’ capping procession, a fine view of Nelson's now cathedral, the activities of various harrier clubs throughout the Dominion, and a variety of other interesting subjects.
