OBITUARY.

WAVERLEY

MRS. ALEXANDER LAIRD. The death took place at Wanganui ou Sunday last of Mrs. Alexander Laird, one of the pioneer settlors of Taranaki and Wanganui, at the great age of 92 years. The late Mrs. Laird was born near Ayr, Scotland, in 1839. She married Mr. Alexander Laird in 1861 and they arrived in New Zealand in 1866 settling first of all in New Plymouth. Ton years later they came to Wanganui and their names arc associated with the early progress of the settlement and down to the present day. Mrs. Laird’s: husband predeceased her some years ago and the remaining members of the family are: Messrs. A. S. Laird (Taumarunui), G. L. Laird (Auckland), D. P. Laird (Waikato), A. B. Laird (Wanganui), Tv. G. Laird (Glasgow. Scotland), Mrs. G. Robertson (Hamilton), Mrs. G. Alexander (Waverier), Mrs. M. Jacobs (Wairarnpa), Mrs. C. G. Bloore (Gisborne), and Miss Laird (Wanganui). There arc 28 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.
