CIRCUS LION KILLS BEAR

FUPIOUS BATTLE IN CAGE. COURAGEOUS WOMAN DYING. A young lion in a circus at Gessel, Germany, was confined in a cage adjoining a Siberian bear. It tor© down •the thin partition and leaped at the boar. A furious battle ensued. The owner's wife, Frau Hassel, who was alone in the circus, courageously rushed into the cage armed with a wire .whip and separated the combatants, but the lion turned on her and so terribly mauled her that she is dying. Attendants, alarmed by the woman’s shrieks and the lion’s roars, arrived on the scene, and using revolvers and rods chased the lion to a. corner. It was’ so badly injured that it had to be destroyed. The bear died from its injuries. Frau Hassel is in hospital in a dying condition.
