PATEA DOMAIN BOARD
UKDINAKT MEETING. The ordinary monthly mooting of tho Patea Domain Board was hold on Monday, Mr. E. F. Hemingway presiding. Messrs. Pappy, Huberts, Jenkins, Kami bottom, and Eoekor wore also present. An apology was received from Mr. Cronin for non-attendance. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Before the ordinary business of the meeting was commenced the chairman extended a hearty welcome to Mr. F. Kamsbottom who had been recently appointed to the board. The chairman said Mr. Kamsbottom hud a long record of public service, of which he could be justly proud, and the board was to be congratulated on having his services as a member of the board. Mr. Papps endorsed the chairman V remarks. Mr. Kamsbottom suitably replied. Cll AIKM AX ; .S REPORT. Tlie chairman reported that since the ms! meet.ng of the board a bubble ioanlain had been installed near the children's playground, and was work.ng sati.-faetoriiy. The grass had been .egularly cut in the oval, though.owing .o tlie long spell of wet weather some dilUculty at times had been experienced in keeping it cut as dose as it should be. Tlie tenants of the lupin paddock were doing good work it. keeping down the lupin and gorso in aecor.lance with their agreement entered into with the board, and next year ,-hould see -practically an entire absence of lupin and gorso in the paddock. It cannot, however, be too strongly emphasised that if continuous effort is not put forward by the tenants during the next 12 months there is always the danger of tho lupin getting ahead onec again, and in that case the board would be a heavy loser, being then in practically the same position as it was at the beginning of the present tenancy, with the additional disadvantage of having received no rent from the paddock. Strict supervision should be kept over the paddock in the future, particular: ly during the next 12 months. With regard to the use of the shed I strongly recommend that its use bo not granted to any institution or person without a fee being paid beforehand, to enable the board to have the necessary funds to keep the slu’d insured and in a pro. per state of repair. Mr. Kamsbottom said he was experimenting with paspalum grass for eradicating the lupin. It had been the salvation of land in the north. . The hind would carry a beast to the acre The report was adopted. The chairman said the memorial gates needed painting again. It was false economy to let them go too long without painting. They had been painted once since tho funds ■were raised for tho purpose by Mrs. J. Petersen by means of the sale of poppies-on Poppy Bay. He was pleased to report that day he had received an offer from Mr. A. G. Keid to clean and paint the gates with two coats of green paint picked out with gold.
It was decided that the olfer lie accepted and that a further supply of poppies be procured and Mrs. Peterson asked to undertake the sale of same. It was decided that the whole board be a committee to inspect the lupin paddock prior to March 31, and that lessees who have not cleared the lupin be notified to have their paddocks cleared before the committee inspects them. It was also decided on the motion of the chairman that all future meetings be held in the Borough Council chambers. The use of the Domain was granted the Patea ami District Public Schools’ Amateur Athletic Association on March oo Accounts were read and passed for payment and the board then rose.
